October 2011Living Our Values & Practising What We Preach An historic event took place between 3rd and 7th October when 32 participants from SAGIA (Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority), TVTC (Technical Vocational & Training Corporation) and MoL (Ministry of Labor) were the first civilians from Saudi Arabia to attend a leadership development programme at Sandhurst. The five-day programme focussed on developing competencies to enable the participants to become world-class leaders in world-class organisations. In practice it has been an enormous success with a group, who were enormously engaged and enthused; willing to tackle new challenges with energy and good humour. The culmination of the week was a Dinner and Award Ceremony in the House of Lords, hosted by Baroness Symons and attended by, amongst others, Dr Afnan Al Shuaibi (CEO of Arab British Chamber of Commerce), Abdulrahman Al Suhaibani (Deputy Ambassador for the KSA) and Nabeel Tarbulsi (Chief HR Officer SAGIA). Breakfast Discussion Our last Breakfast Discussion of 2011 on 11th October explored the critical issue of gender balance on company boards. We were delighted to have Andi Keeling, HR Chief Operating Officer from Royal Bank of Scotland, speaking to us about her experience on the matter and the initiatives that RBS have sponsored to improve gender balance in the business. Caroline Hallett and Bobby Chatterjee from IDG introduced the subject focusing on its commercial importance and gave some advice on how to reach a better balance. Our 27 guests came from a diverse range of UK and worldwide organisations. The discussion was an opportunity for them to talk about the topic in detail and individual's own experiences. These are some of the comments from our attendees: “It was a very worthwhile event”. We are now working on next year’s event schedule, so if you are interested in attending or would like more details, please email giovanna.ramazzina@inspirationaldg.com. |
